NYC’s Summer Rising

Updated June 7, 2021 at 12:30 PM

NYC's Summer Rising for students in grades K- 8 and ungraded grades will offer arts, field trips, outdoor recreation, and social-emotional and academic support and enrichment. Summer Rising High School programs for students in grades 9-12 will allow students to make up previously failed courses and complete courses in progress (programs may be in person or remote). Work experience and internship opportunities may be available too, including eligible students for the Summer Youth Employment Program.

Families of students with 12-month IEPs most likely have already heard from their child’s school to discuss their summer plans for their child. However, families should contact their child’s school if they have not connected with them yet or would like to change their plans.

District 75 Students: Students with 12-month IEPs who attend District 75 will receive their related services at their summer school program from July 2-August 13 (except July 5 and July 20), Monday-Friday, 8:10 AM-2:40 PM. They have the option to attend a Summer Rising program each day when summer school ends at 2:40 PM.

Families have a choice on what Summer Rising program their child can attend, including a program at or near their child’s District 75 summer school program, or enrolling in a program near home. Busing will be provided for District 75 students to their Summer Rising program after summer school ends each day if it is a different location, and families will need to complete an alternate afternoon drop-off form. However, busing as of now, will NOT be provided home for students’ from their Summer Rising program.

Students with Extended School Year Programs (ESY)
Students with IEPs that recommend a 12-month program will attend their summer school program from July 2-August 13 (except July 5 and July 20), Monday-Friday, 8:10 AM-2:20 PM. They can attend a Summer Rising program each day when summer school ends at 2:20 PM. Families can wait until they know the location of their child's ESY site before selecting a Summer Rising Program, or can register now and change to a more convenient location later if needed. Registration for Summer Rising Programs is ongoing.

Students with 12-month Related Services Only (Not students in District 75 programs)
If a child's IEP recommends related services only, such as speech, occupational, or physical therapy, during July and August, they will be offered the opportunity to sign up for services at DOE sites in all five boroughs, including many Summer Rising programs.
